GET YOUR PROPERTY SHIPSHAPE FOR THE POST COVID-19 MARKET.
The silver lining to this lockdown is that many of us now have time to spend on improving and adding value to our properties. We all have long ‘to-do’ lists for around the home, so take advantage of this opportunity to tick some jobs off your list, especially if you are thinking of putting your home on the market when this crisis settles down.
START OUTSIDE
Spend your downtime tidying up around the garden and yard. Not only is it therapeutic and good exercise, but your front lawn and garden are the first thing potential purchasers will see. Take a hard look at your property and see what areas need the most love. Weeding, cleaning down the exterior walls, removing cobwebs, cleaning the windows and touching up paintwork (if you have the paint in storage) are all good options.
TACKLE THE INSIDE
Make sure the interior of your property looks as well tended and maintained as the exterior. Spend time on the areas where you tend to store or stash things like closets, drawers and the garage. Most of us have a tendency to hold on to things in the hope that we’ll use them “some day”, only to end up with years or even decades worth of clutter. If you are planning on selling your property, it’s important to get rid of any unused items and do a thorough tidy up of any storage areas. Lockdown is also the ideal time to do a “spring clean” – better early than never! Clean those neglected areas like your cupboards, drawers, fridge and oven.
TO DIY OR NOT
As you won’t be able to get a tradesperson in to help you right now, it is essential that you only tackle those tasks that are safe to do. Don’t put yourself at risk of injury by engaging in DIY activities that require a skilled or qualified tradesperson. Instead, focus on the jobs you can do. Sometimes it’s the little details that make the biggest difference, like cleaning the front door and giving it a fresh coat of pain or dealing to the mould on your deck. First impressions count, so look at your property through a potential buyer’s eyes when deciding which jobs to do first.
BE MARKET-READY
If selling your property is on the cards, use this time to do your research so you’re ready to market your home when the time is right. During lockdown, our Sales Consultants are available to discuss your needs via virtual appointments. Take advantage of their local knowledge and experience to improve your understanding of the best way to market and sell your property.
